The ETC Source 4: Built to Be Repaired

There’s only one Source Four: the ellipsoidal fixture that changed the lighting industry. The ETC Source 4 combines the energy-saving power of the patented HPL lamp with a dichroic reflector and optical-quality lenses for the coolest beam on the market. That means your gels, patterns, and shutters last longer and your performance space stays cooler.

Since its introduction in 1992, barring a few minor tweaks, ETC has maintained the original design of the Source 4 ERS (Elliptical Reflector Spotlight).

Every Part Can Be Replaced

For that reason, there is literally nothing on a Source 4 which cannot be repaired or replaced. Whether you need new lens tubes, replacement shutters, a new lamp socket, a reflector, gel frame clips, or any other component, genuine ETC parts are available and designed to drop right in.

Common Source 4 Repairs

  • Lamp socket replacement: The most common repair. Sockets wear out over time from heat cycling and lamp changes.
  • Shutter blade replacement: Bent or warped shutter blades can be replaced individually without replacing the entire gate assembly.
  • Lens tube swaps: Source 4 lens tubes are interchangeable. If you need a different beam angle, you just swap the tube.
  • Reflector replacement: If the dichroic reflector is chipped, cracked, or has lost its coating, a replacement restores the fixture to original performance.
  • Gel frame clip replacement: These are small, cheap, and easy to replace yourself.
  • C-clamp and yoke repairs: Stripped bolts and worn yokes can be replaced with genuine parts.

Why Repair Instead of Replace?

A new ETC Source 4 ERS costs several hundred dollars. A socket replacement costs a fraction of that. If the body of the fixture is in good shape, repairing is almost always more cost-effective than replacing. And since ETC has maintained the same design since 1992, parts availability is never an issue.

For venues considering a transition to LED fixtures, repairing and maintaining your existing Source 4 inventory keeps your conventional rig performing while you budget for the LED upgrade over time.
