Sennheiser EW-D: Digital Wireless for the Next Generation
The Sennheiser EW-D is Sennheiser’s digital wireless microphone platform, offering improved audio quality, easier frequency coordination, and lower latency compared to the analog Evolution Wireless G4 series. As an authorized Sennheiser partner, XS Lighting & Sound configures and sells custom EW-D packages from our Kansas City location.
EW-D vs. Evolution Wireless G4
The EW-D brings several advantages over the analog G4 platform:
- Digital transmission: Cleaner audio with wider dynamic range and no compander artifacts
- Easier frequency coordination: The digital platform allows more channels to operate in less spectrum
- Lower latency: Critical for in-ear monitor applications and live performance
- Simpler pricing: Handheld and bodypack packages are the same price at each tier
Custom Package Sizes
Like the G4 series, we configure EW-D packages from 1 to 16 channels. Each package includes EW-D EM receivers, your choice of EW-D SKM-S handheld transmitters (with e 835 capsules) or EW-D SK bodypacks (with ME 2 lavalier mics), EW-D ASA active antenna splitters, EW-D AB antenna boosters, and all cables.
Key Components
- EW-D EM Receiver: Digital rackmount receiver with network control via Sennheiser WSM software
- EW-D SKM-S Handheld: Digital handheld transmitter with interchangeable capsules
- EW-D SK Bodypack: Compact digital bodypack for lavalier and headset mics
- EW-D ASA Antenna Splitter: Active antenna distribution with power for up to 4 receivers
Which System Is Right for You?
For new purchases, we generally recommend the EW-D platform for its improved audio quality and easier frequency management. The G4 remains a solid choice if you’re expanding an existing G4 system and want to keep everything on the same platform. Both work with Point Source Audio microphones and RF Venue antenna systems.
